Cargill made its first investment in Efremov in 1995 when it acquired a starches and sweeteners plant. Since that time, the company has invested more than US$500 million in upgrading the facility, which has become a significant supplier of corn syrup, starch and other liquid sweeteners to the food industries in Russia.
New emerging businesses mean that Cargill is here for long, ready to continue its constructive cooperation with the local farmers. Currently the company is buying major part of its raw materials (wheat, barley, etc.) within Tula and neighbouring regions. In 2013, Cargill opened its first chicken processing plant in Efremov. The further processing plant can produce up to 18,000 tonnes of high quality chicken products per annum for the Russian market and is a valuable addition to Cargill’s existing group of businesses in Efremov.
The headcount of Cargill in Efremov makes over 1000 employees, therefore the company being a major employer in the city of 40 000 residents. For the years of its presence in Efremov Cargill has been providing active support to the community.
