Cargill made its first investment in Efremov in 1995 when it acquired a starches and sweeteners plant. Since that time, the company has invested more than US$400 million in upgrading the facility, which has become a significant supplier of corn syrup, starch and other liquid sweeteners to the food industries in Russia.
Over the recent 10 years Cargill has been steadily developing its industrial complex in Efremov investing both into upgrade of the current facilities and construction of the new ones. Efremov production site has been expanded with malt and an all-inclusive wheat plants. Oil refinery has been launched, now supplying its products all over the Russia. Efremov is doing well in vital wheat gluten being top-quality raw material for the Russian bakeries. In 2007 Cargill launched its oil and fats refinery and packaging plant. In 2009 the company opened it's first feed mill in Russia. In 2010 Cargill also announced the start of chicken semi-products plant construction.
New emerging businesses mean that Cargill is here for long, ready to continue its constructive cooperation with the local farmers. Currently the company is buying major part of its raw materials (wheat, barley, etc.) within Tula and neighbouring regions.
The headcount of Cargill in Efremov makes over 800 employees, therefore the company being a major employer in the city of 50 000 residents. For the years of its presence in Efremov Cargill has been providing active support to the community.
