Cargill increases export potential in Russia, embracing environmental efficiencies
Volgograd Region, Novoanninsky, October 17, 2018 – Cargill officially inaugurated its crush plant in Novoanninsky today.
The ceremony was attended by the Governor of the Volgograd Region Andrei Bocharov, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, Oksana Luth, the head of the Cargill grain agricultural supply chain in Europe, Middle East and Africa, business in EMEA region Roger Janson, the leadership of Cargill in Russia and other officials.
The 10 billion ruble investment, with a capacity to process 640,000 tons of sunflower seeds, 260,000 tons of raw sunflower oil and 240,000 tons of meal per annum, reached its full capacity in June 2018. The plant exclusively sources local raw materials and its products are in demand from the food and feed industries.
Today, the plant’s products — oil meal and sunflower oil — are supplied mainly to the domestic market of the Russian Federation, including as raw materials to be further processed by Cargill’s own businesses in the town of Efremov, Tula Region. In addition to the domestic market, the Novoanninskyi plant will increase Cargill’s export potential from Russia by 50 percent.
“Cargill is a significant participant in Russian agriculture. This plant, in the heart of Russia’s sunflower belt perfectly fits Cargill's oilseed strategy in the Black Sea area, set to open new markets for export destination and support local demand.
The government’s desire to expand the country’s participation in global trade is fertile ground for the further development of the company's export potential and the implementation of new investment projects, ”said Roger Janson, Cargill Agricultural Supply Chain EMEA Group Leader.
The company has fully complied with Russian and international technological and environmental standards of production. Through the efficient use of production waste, which forms part of its cogeneration project, it will be possible for Cargill to cover 70 percent of the plant’s own energy needs.
The company has created 150 high-tech jobs at the plant, primarily employing local residents.
